Every year this unit publishes an advertisement in the leading newspapers for inviting applications up to 15 July from the prospective organizers for holding three types of camps [1] Eye and surgical  [2] Mini surgical and [3] Eye and dental camps in different parts of the State.

By the end of July, a committee under the Chairmanship of Director, Mobile Surgical Unit, finalizes the camps' program.

Camp sites are chosen from the applications on the basis of instructions provided by Govt. of Rajasthan. Priority is given to backward, tribal and desert areas. Surgical camps are organized in remote areas of Rajasthan where medical facilities are not available. Cooperation of the local Non Govt. Organizers is saught on priority so that maximum involvement of local residents can be assured so that unit can provide better services to all section of people. Dates are fixed tentatively and the Camp Officer Incharge of this Unit sends intimation to various organizers for inspecting the site. After inspection, the final dates for holding camps are fixed in consultation with the organizers.

Publicity is done for 8 to 10 days in neighboring areas covering about 50kms to 60 kms of radius prior to holding the camps in all major eye and surgical camps.

Approximately 10-20 thousand people including patients, their attendants, local population collect at every eye and surgical camps. While in other camps there is large gathering.

PROGRAMS

The programs conducted simultaneously during Camps are: Health Exhibition, Film Shows, Family Welfare, Health Education Programs etc.

The District TB Program Authorities and malaria dept. is also associated during camps for detecting, analysis and treatment of TB and malaria patients in the population. Special emphasis is given for the detection of cancer patients in early stages so that they can get treatment at an early stage.

EYE AND SURGICAL CAMP
All kind of major and minor operations of thyroid, breast, parotid, stomach, intestines, gall bladder, kidney, uterus, hernia, hydrocele, piles, fistula and family welfare operations including laproscopic sterilization's are performed their. ENT and orthopaedic surgeon provide their best possible surgical assistance to the needy persons of the area.

On the Ophthalmic side, operations such as cataract, glaucoma, entropion, dacryocystitis ptosis, squint form the bulk of eye surgery.

INVESTIGATIONS
MSU has its own pathological laboratory where all necessary investigations like blood tests, urine tests, liver function tests, blood transfusion facility, renal function test facilities are available.

The unit has an X-ray van and a sonography van to provide full facility to patient for their X-ray and sonography investigations like IVP, Barium meal examinations and other investigations are done as per requirement of the patients. All investigations are completed within 48 hrs so that they can be operated in next 3 to 4 days.

ACCOMMODATION:

All patients who are admitted for operations are accommodated in huge tents with a capacity of 80 to 90 beds. At some places like JOGANIA MATA, SITABARI [Dist. BARAN] many civil tents are required to accommodate the patients and this scene is like a big MELA.

EXPENSES 

IT IS THE ONLY UNIT OF MEDICAL HEALTH DEPT WHICH PROVIDES FREE SERVICE TO THE PATIENTS INCLUDING STAY, INVESTIGATIONS, OPERATION, FOOD ETC.
