MSU-AN AID TO DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT

MSU serves the interior and remote rural areas of state which lack basic medical facilities.In these areas the laboratory of MSU helps to diagnose and thereby treat the patients suffering from various diseases.

Functioning:

As soon as the OPD patients are admitted or are planned to be admitted

the laboratory starts functioning.

All indoor patients are investigated as a routine before surgery.

It is equipped with all kits and reagents for biochemical tests.

It has microscope, glucometer,autoanalyzer and colorimeter.

TESTS PERFORMED:

At CAMP site:

Haemoglobin,TLC,DLC,ESR,BT,CT

Blood sugar-Fasting,PP,random.

Blood urea,Serum creatinine,SGOT,SGPT,Serum bilirubin

Serum cholesterol.

Urine-albumin,sugar,complete/microscopic,bile salts,bile pigments

Stool examination for ova and cyst.

Semen analysis.

At CITY HOSPITAL :

Haemoglobin,TLC,DLC,ESR,BT,CT.

Blood sugar-fasting,PP,random.

Urine-albumin,sugar,complete/microscopic

Stool examination for ova and cyst.

Semen analysis.

SPUTUM FOR AFB IS NOT PERFORMED IN UNIT'S LAB.This test is carried out by TB clinic as they further carry out the treatment and followup of such cases.

BLOOD TRANSFUSION:

We do not have facility for blood bank hence we get blood from

nearby district hospital or Medical college.

Blood is donated by relatives of patients or volunteers.

It is cross matched at camp site and at district hospital or medical

college.

It is transported with full precautions so that it does not haemolyse.

At campsite blood is transfused either in ward or in operation theatre.

STATISTICS:

Number of cases investigated per major camp are-approx.3000

Number of cases investigated per minor camp are-approx.250

Number of cases investigated per mini camp are-approx.350

FUTURE PLANS:

Frozen section for biopsy of specimens for early detection and

staging of diseases.

Unit's own blood bank.
