The mobile surgical unit is celebrating its golden jubilee in the year 2006.
I pray to God for its betterment and modernisation,so that poor,illiterate
people of remote areas of Rajasthan continue to get the medical,dental and surgical services provided by the unit.
Dental unit of MSU is working very hard from the very beginning. The unit approaches difficult rural areas and organises camps for poor needy people. Very few patients approach the camps in early stage of dental diseases,mostly they present in late stages of the disease. Majority of cases we come across are chronic destructive periodontitis and grossly neglected dental caries. MSU is doing magnificient job by treating such patients.Patients are satisfied by the quality of treatment.
DENTAL OPD:
Dental OPD& operations are carried out in dental van.
Approximately 90-95% cases are of periodontal disease (gingivitis & periodontitis)&dental caries.
Rest of the cases require prosthesis,orthodontic &endodontic treatment.
Rarely we come across patients for oral &maxillofacial surgical interventions.
TREATMENT:
Motivate and educate the patient for awareness&importance of oral hygiene.To avoid gutkha and tobacco as they predispose to OSMF&
oral cancer.
Dental treatment is very costly and unaffordable by the poor patients.
MSU provides free treatment &medicines for such patients at their doorsteps.
Surgery in camps-Extraction,restoration,scaling,epulis excision,
papillectomy &gingivectomy.
As patients are illiterate and unaware of recent development in dentistry
they present in OPD for tooth extraction.
In camps prosthetic,orthodontic&endodontic treatment is not performed as
these require multiple sittings for long periods and frequent followups
.
PREVENTION:
The incidence&severity of dental diseases can be decreased by maintaining proper oral hygiene by-
Regular brushing of teeth and mouthwash.
Taking fibrous food in diet.
Gingival massage after every meal.
Avoid sweets and sticky food. |
